How to Test if Your Server Ports Are Open
Opening ports is the hardest part of setting up a server. (In my opinion at least and since I am the only one here right now that is the only opinion you will get. Seriously though, you “open” the ports in your firewall but you cannot tell if you did it correctly. Well those days are over, mostly. I have found a program that sends a file to the server and back over the ports you select to see if the ports are actually open.
- Download the ConanDedicatedServerLauncher
- Drag it to the folder where you want it to reside
- Create a shortcut to your desktop
- Double click it to run.
Now, at the top select your network card, type the ports you believe are open into the fields and select test port accessibility.
The test will fail if,
- The ports are in use by another server
- The ports are not open in the router
- The ports/program is blocked by windows firewall
- The ports/program is blocked by another program (antivirus/network card/offsite hosting)
When everything lights up green, you should be good to go and probably just need to figure out that servers “quirks”. Enshrouded would be a good example of your server not showing up in the list but everything is correct. It just requires an extra “step”.
